A Breastfeeding Doll?

Have you seen this?  A doll that breastfeeds?

I saw this on the news a while ago, then again this morning.  As a mother that breastfed proudly, I do not have a problem with the concept.  Honestly I think it would be a waste of money, any doll can be a breastfeeding doll in a child’s imagination.


What I found most interesting was the uproar people were getting into over it.  Too much too soon? Sexualizing children?  What?  As usual they miss the point!  It has nothing to do with a breastfeeding doll, it has to do with a little girl wanting to be like her mommy, who breastfeeds and cares for her.  


Why not yell about play kitchens?  Kids could burn themselves if they try to really cook and isn’t it too much to expect little children to worry about making people dinner?  How about play vacuums?  Don’t kids have their whole lives to worry about vacuuming?  Why should they start so early?  Are we domestitizing (sp?) our children too early?  And why would any good parent buy their child a ride on car?  I think it is too much to ask that our children have to endure the stress of driving before their time!  They could develop baby road rage!


I mean, if you breastfeed most likely you children will be curious about it.  My kids asked and I told them what I was doing.  There is nothing to be ashamed of, and nothing to hide from them.  My youngest daughter wants to nurse her babies when she grows up, and if she does I hope the world is a bit more accepting of her choice.
